Fast-Acting Edibles in NYC: What Makes Them Different & Which Ones We Carry

What you can carry, grow, and smoke under New York’s MRTA, and where Staten Island and NYC add their own rules on top.

Key Takeaways

  • Fast-acting edibles are gummies and drinks made so THC mixes with water, which lets your body take it in sooner than a standard edible.
  • In a 2026 Colorado State University study, a fast-acting edible peaked in the blood 30 minutes after eating it, about half an hour sooner than a standard one.
  • The same study found no real difference in how high THC levels got, how long they lasted, or how much THC people absorbed overall.
  • Look for Quick, Nano or Fast Acting in the product name. Some seltzers on our shelf, like TUNE and Layup, make no fast-acting claim.
  • NugHub carries Wana Quick, Select Nano Bites, MyHi Fast Acting gummies and Ayrloom nano-emulsified drinks on Staten Island and for delivery.

You’ll see Quick, Nano or Fast Acting on a handful of gummy packs and drink cans on our edibles menu. All three promise less waiting.

A regular edible can take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours to start working, according to the Ontario Cannabis Store’s edibles guide. A gummy that gets there sooner sounds great, and in 2026 researchers finally measured how much sooner. We carry four fast-acting lines on Staten Island, and they’re all below.

Fast-acting edibles, explained

Fast-acting edibles are gummies and drinks made so THC mixes with water, which lets your body start taking it in sooner than a standard edible.

In a standard gummy or chocolate, THC sits in oil or fat. Your body has to digest it before much of anything happens, which is why edibles have a reputation for making you wait. We get into the full digestion story in our NYC Edibles Survival Guide.

Fast-acting brands change how the THC is packaged inside the gummy or drink, and the amount stays the same. Every fast-acting edible we carry comes in pieces or cans of 10mg THC or less.

So what you’re paying for is timing. That matters if you’re heading to a show at the St. George Theatre and don’t want to guess whether your gummy kicks in during the opener or on the ferry home.

How fast-acting edibles work

THC is an oil and your gut is mostly water. Fast-acting makers break THC into tiny water-friendly droplets so it mixes in sooner.

Think about shaking a bottle of oil-and-vinegar dressing. Leave it alone and the oil floats back up in big blobs. That’s roughly what THC does in a watery environment like your stomach.

Nano-emulsion fixes that by breaking THC into droplets so small they stay spread through water instead of clumping. “Nano” just refers to how tiny those droplets are. Select Nano Bites use it, and so do Ayrloom’s cannabis drinks.

Wana Quick gets there a different way. Its gummies use encapsulation, a technology from a company called Azuca that coats individual THC molecules, according to Wana’s 2020 launch announcement.

“Water soluble THC” is the phrase you’ll usually see on drink labels. In plain English, it’s THC that’s been made to mix with water.

How long fast-acting edibles take to kick in

In a 2026 study, a fast-acting edible peaked in the blood about 30 minutes after eating it, roughly half an hour sooner than a standard edible.

The best data we’ve seen comes from a 2026 Colorado State University study published in Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research. Twenty adults each tried three edibles on separate occasions, a fast-acting one, a standard one, and a placebo that looked and tasted the same.

Researchers tracked THC in their blood. The fast-acting edible hit its peak 30 minutes after eating, on average 30 minutes earlier than the standard edible.

Brands tend to quote faster numbers than that. Wana says Quick gummies start working in about 5 to 15 minutes, and MyHi says its Fast Acting gummies kick in within 15 minutes. We’d treat the brand numbers as the best case and the study as the realistic one.

MyHi Fast Acting onset 15 minutes or less MyHi (brand claim)

Fast-acting vs regular edibles on strength and how long they last

The 2026 study found no real difference between fast-acting and standard edibles in peak THC level, how long it lasted, or total THC absorbed.

Plenty of people search for whether fast-acting edibles are stronger. Going by the study, they aren’t. The fast-acting and standard edibles reached about the same peak level of THC in the blood, and people absorbed about the same total amount.

They didn’t wear off faster either. THC cleared from the blood at the same pace with both, so if you were hoping for a shorter ride, the research doesn’t back that up.

Two of the study’s authors work for Wana and Azuca, the companies behind the Wana Quick technology. The researchers and companies signed an agreement before the study started meant to keep the funders out of how results were reported. We think the findings are still worth knowing, and you can read the full abstract on PubMed.

Because a fast-acting edible lands sooner, you’ll know sooner whether one piece did the job. Wait for it before reaching for another. Our Survival Guide covers the rest of the edible basics.

Fast-acting edibles on our menu

NugHub carries Wana Quick gummies, Select Nano Bites, MyHi Fast Acting live rosin gummies and Ayrloom nano-emulsified drinks.

This is what was on our fast-acting shelf in early November. Stock moves, so check our fast-acting edibles page for today’s lineup.

Product What you get Flavors on our menu Onset claim
Wana Quick Gummies, 10 pieces at 10mg New York Sunrise, Peach Bellini, Piña Colada, Limoncello, Island Punch 5 to 15 minutes (Wana)
Select Nano Bites Gummies, 20 pieces at 5mg Pomegranate Labeled fast-acting, no time given
MyHi Fast Acting Live rosin gummies, 10 pieces Super Sativa Tangerine, Relax Indica Blue Raz 15 minutes or less (MyHi)
Ayrloom drinks 12oz cans Rosé, Honey Crisp Cider Nano-emulsified, no time given

Our pick is Wana Quick New York Sunrise. It’s a bright orange-and-grapefruit chew with the clearest onset claim on the shelf, and we’ll admit the name got us too.

Select Nano Bites in Pomegranate come 20 to a pack at 5mg each, which makes them easy to split into smaller amounts. Expect a rich, fruity pomegranate flavor.

MyHi’s Fast Acting gummies are made with waterless live rosin, an extract pressed out of the plant with heat and pressure instead of chemical solvents. MyHi says that keeps the bitter aftertaste out.

If you’d rather sip, Ayrloom’s Rosé can is a sparkling cider made from fresh-pressed apples and rosé grape juice, from the upstate family behind Beak & Skiff. Our Ayrloom spotlight has the full story, and our cannabis drinks guide covers the rest of the cooler.

How to spot a fast-acting edible on the label

Look for Quick, Nano or Fast Acting in the product name. Without those words, check the product page before you assume it’s fast.

The fast-acting brands on our shelf put it right in the name. Wana uses Quick, Select uses Nano and MyHi spells it out as Fast Acting. On drink cans, look for nano or water soluble.

Seltzers vary. The TUNE and Layup cans on our menu make no fast-acting claim, so don’t count on them landing early.

A COA (certificate of analysis, the product’s lab report) tells you how much THC is in the pack. It won’t tell you how fast it works. For that, the label and the brand’s own info are what you’ve got. Our guide to reading a COA walks through the rest of that report.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do fast-acting edibles take to kick in?

In a 2026 Colorado State study, a fast-acting edible peaked in the blood 30 minutes after eating, about 30 minutes sooner than a standard edible. Brands quote faster times. Wana says 5 to 15 minutes for Quick gummies, and MyHi says 15 minutes or less.

How long do fast-acting edibles last?

The 2026 study didn’t find them wearing off any faster. THC from the fast-acting edible cleared from the blood at about the same pace as THC from a standard one.

Are fast-acting edibles stronger than regular edibles?

No. The 2026 study found no real difference in peak THC level or total THC absorbed between fast-acting and standard edibles. The fast-acting one just got there sooner.

What does nano mean on an edible?

Nano means the THC has been broken into very small droplets, a process called nano-emulsion, so it mixes with water. That lets your body start taking it in sooner than THC sitting in oil or fat.

Are all THC drinks fast-acting?

No. Some drinks, like Ayrloom’s cans, are nano-emulsified. Others, including the TUNE and Layup seltzers on our menu, make no fast-acting claim, so check the can or product page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring cannabis from New Jersey into New York?

No. Both states have legal markets, but transporting cannabis across state lines is a federal offense even between two legal states. Buy from a licensed New York dispensary instead of carrying product over a border.

Can my employer fire me for using cannabis off duty?

Most New York employees are protected under Section 201-D. Exceptions apply to safety-sensitive roles, federally regulated transportation jobs, and federal positions, so check your specific employer’s policy if you’re unsure.

Is it legal to gift cannabis to another adult in New York?

Yes. Adults 21 and up can gift up to 3 ounces of cannabis to other adults 21 and up without any compensation changing hands. Selling without a license remains illegal regardless of amount.

Do I need a medical card to buy cannabis in New York?

No. That’s one of the most common misconceptions we hear at the counter. Anyone 21 or older with a valid government ID can shop at a licensed adult-use dispensary, no medical card required.

Can I grow cannabis at home in New York?

Yes, up to 6 plants per household (3 mature, 3 immature) for personal use, kept secure and out of public view. Specific rules can vary slightly by county, so confirm details on the OCM site.

Can police search me just because they smell cannabis?

The smell of cannabis alone is no longer probable cause for a search in New York after MRTA. Other independent, reasonable suspicion can still lead to a search, so this isn’t blanket protection.

Where can I buy legal cannabis on Staten Island?

NugHub NY is a licensed dispensary and delivery service based on Staten Island, holding one of the state’s early Social Equity licenses. Visit our Staten Island dispensary page for hours, directions, and same-day delivery details.
