- THCa diamonds are crystals of THCa that grow out of a cannabis extract over days to weeks and are then separated from the liquid around them.
- On their own, diamonds are close to flavorless; the smell and taste come from the terpene-rich “sauce” they grow in.
- “Liquid diamonds” and “melted diamonds” on a vape mean the crystals were melted down and blended with terpenes.
- At NugHub you’ll find diamonds as a powder, in infused pre-rolls and flower, and in liquid diamonds vapes from brands like Rove, Off Hours and Jaunty.
- Like all THCa, diamonds need heat to turn into THC.
“Diamonds” shows up all over a cannabis menu now. You’ll see it on pre-rolls, on vapes, on a little jar of white powder, even on a bag of flower. It’s the same ingredient every time, and it’s a lot simpler than the name makes it sound.
THCa diamonds are crystals of THCa, the raw form of THC, grown out of a cannabis extract and pulled out on their own. They barely smell or taste like anything on their own, which is exactly why brands pair them with sauce or terpenes, and why reading the rest of the label matters more than the word “diamonds” does.
What are THCa diamonds?
THCa diamonds are crystals of THCa, the raw form of THC, that grow out of a cannabis extract and get separated out. They have almost no flavor.
Picture rock candy, but in a jar of cannabis extract. Given enough time, THCa in the extract starts to clump into clear, glassy crystals. Those crystals are the diamonds.
The terpenes stay behind in the liquid, so diamonds don’t carry much of the plant’s smell or flavor. Weedmaps’ diamonds guide says they lack the terpenes behind aroma and taste unless they’re paired with a terpene-rich sauce.
Since diamonds are THCa, they work the same way THCa flower does. Heat turns THCa into THC. Our THCa guide goes deeper on that.

How are THCa diamonds made?
Producers make a cannabis extract, then hold it at a set temperature and pressure for days to weeks while THCa slowly crystallizes out of it.
It starts like most concentrates. A licensed processor runs cannabis through a closed-loop extractor, and a solvent pulls out the cannabinoids and terpenes. Some brands, like Rove, start with fresh-frozen flower to keep more of the plant’s terpenes.
Then comes the waiting. Per Weedmaps, the extract sits under controlled temperature and pressure for anywhere from days to weeks, and the longer it sits, the bigger the crystals get. Perfect Union’s write-up says the crystals collect at the bottom while the sauce settles on top.
The industry calls the next step “diamond mining.” The crystals get separated from the sauce, and any leftover solvent is purged before the product moves on to lab testing. This is a licensed-lab job, so there’s no home version here.

What’s the difference between diamonds and sauce?
Diamonds are the THCa crystals. Sauce is the runny, terpene-heavy liquid they grow in, and it’s where nearly all of the smell and flavor lives.
Think of diamonds and sauce as two halves of the same jar. The crystals sit at the bottom doing very little for your nose, and the sauce is runny, sticky and loud, packed with the terpenes that make a strain smell like gas, fruit or pine.
That’s why you’ll so often see them sold together as “diamonds and sauce.” Our take is that the pairing is the whole point. Diamonds alone are kind of a blank slate, and the sauce gives them a personality.
Terpene-rich extracts show up under other names too. SpaceBuds’ Moon Stone vapes, for example, list “terpene rich HTE” (high terpene extract) next to liquid diamonds and rosin.
What are live resin diamonds?
Live resin diamonds are THCa diamonds grown from a live resin extract, which starts with plants frozen fresh instead of dried and cured.
The “live” part is about the starting material. Live resin is made from flower frozen right after harvest, so more of the fresh-plant terpenes make it into the extract. Rove says its live resin diamonds come from fresh-frozen flowers and grow into large, faceted crystals.
The crystals themselves are still THCa. The difference shows up in the sauce, which carries that fresher, louder terpene profile. If you like live resin vapes, live resin diamonds are the same idea taken one step further. Our live resin vs distillate guide explains why that matters for flavor.
What are liquid diamonds?
Liquid diamonds, or melted diamonds, are THCa crystals melted down and blended with terpenes so they can go into a vape cart or all-in-one.
Solid crystals can’t go in a vape, so brands melt them first. Off Hours describes its Off Box Diamonds vapes as melted THCa diamonds with cannabis-derived terpene blends. Rove says its live resin diamonds are liquefied for its vapes.
The terpenes added back are what give each one its flavor. Jaunty‘s Palm in Ruby Red Diesel, a 1.5g all-in-one, leans fuel-forward with grapefruit and tangy citrus. SpaceBuds‘ Pineapple Upside Down Cake Moon Stone goes full dessert, juicy pineapple and cake.
Comparing two liquid diamonds vapes? Skip the word “diamonds” and read the strain and terpenes on the product page instead.
What forms do THCa diamonds come in at NugHub?
At NugHub you’ll find diamonds as a fine powder, mixed into pre-rolls and flower, and melted into liquid diamonds vapes from several brands.
Diamonds show up in more places on our menu than most people expect, from a powder jar to the vape case.
| Form | What it is | Examples on our menu |
|---|---|---|
| Diamond powder | Crystals ground into a fine powder | Blotter THCA Diamond Powder |
| Diamond-infused pre-rolls | Crushed diamonds mixed into a joint | Monarchy, Heavy Hitters, Dogwalkers |
| Diamond-infused flower | Flower with diamonds added | Grassroots Foreign Kush Mints |
| Liquid diamonds vapes | Melted diamonds plus terpenes | Rove, Off Hours, Jaunty Palm, SpaceBuds Moon Stone |
Blotter‘s powder is the simplest look at what a diamond is, a fine white crystal with almost no aroma. Grassroots takes the other route and adds diamonds to flower, so its Foreign Kush Mints still smells like earthy kush, pepper and cool mint.
Diamond-infused pre-rolls get their own breakdown in our best infused pre-rolls guide.

Are THCa diamonds legal in New York?
Yes, at licensed dispensaries for adults 21 and older. Hemp diamonds sold online follow separate rules, and federal rules change in late 2026.
Diamonds from a licensed New York dispensary are cannabis products. They’re made by licensed processors and tested before they hit the shelf, just like the flower and vapes next to them.
“THCa diamonds” sold online as hemp are a different market. New York’s hemp rules cap delta-9 at 0.3% and only allow inhalable hemp products in closed-system cartridges or single-use devices.
Federal rules are changing too. A new federal hemp definition counts THCa toward total THC, and hemp products over 0.4 mg of THC and similar cannabinoids per container lose hemp status, according to the Congressional Research Service. Some parts take effect November 12, 2026 and others December 11, 2026. Our delta-9 vs delta-8 guide has more on New York’s rules.

Liquid diamonds are THCa crystals melted down and blended with terpenes so they can be used in vape carts and all-in-one devices.
Where can I buy THCa diamonds in Staten Island?
NugHub carries diamond powder, diamond-infused pre-rolls and flower, and liquid diamonds vapes at our Forest Ave shop and through delivery.
If you’re trying diamonds for the first time, pick a product built on a strain you already like. Since the crystals bring almost no flavor, what you taste is that strain.
